Business Profile: Wholesale Office Machines

By Jamie Hamilton

Become Part of the Family T Wholesale Office Machines

Dealers, you will get a bit of the old fashion touch when dealing with Wholesale Office Machines, founded in 1948. They do business the old fashion way, face to face. Be part of the family, at Wholesale Office Machines.

Anywhere in the Central United States, their Sales Representatives will meet with you and talk to you in person about the products they represent and match them with your needs.

“We are always searching for new product lines,” says Vice President Tracy Clark, “and we are proud to service what we sell.”

Kobra Paper Shredders are now becoming one of the most used products by the United States Government-who is constantly destroying its archives for safety-because they can shred up to 400 sheets at a time in all security levels 1 through the new High Security Level 6. If you have customers with a massive archive to shred, suggest Kobra Paper Shredders.

One of the oldest Distributors in the country, Wholesale Office Machines became one of the leading suppliers in the Southwest for used and refurbished typewriters in the 1950’s. Founder, A.W. Kartous, sold his first typewriter in 1914, at the age of 15.

“Many of our customers back then have grown with us through the years and are some of the largest office machine dealers in the Southwest today,” says Dennie Clark, President of Wholesale Machines.

Adding two new offices in two years to better serve the Midwest, Ohio and Missouri offices are now locations from which they are expanding their Marketing efforts.

“Our sales force and office staff can be an intricate part of increasing the sales efforts of many of the companies we represent,” said Fred Edmonds, Sales Manager.

Training Dealers-The Old Fashion Way

Wholesale Office machine Representatives will come to your facility and train you on the equipment. While staying competitive on price, they go the extra mile for service. They consider every customer as part of their family (see Family owned and Operated).

“We find this gives us a real selling advantage,” says Fred Edmonds, Wholesale Office Machine Sales Manager.

Marketing is part of this process. They will help you train your sales people to stay on top of their game in the industry. Keeping them aware of the new product lines, dealers increase their marketing capacity to the customer.

“We feel over the next ten years the Office Equipment Distributor will play a vital role in marketing and supporting the office Equipment Dealer Channel,” said Dennie Clark.

And Wholesale Office Machines has had experience in teaching dealers how to succeed. They were the first distributor to sponsor a BTA seminar, “How to Hire, Train & Compensate Sales People.”

The class was in response to reports Wholesale Office Machines received from dealers who were having problems finding and keeping good sales people. More than 200 people representing close to 100 dealerships attended the seminar.

“That was just another example of how Wholesale Office Machines values its dealer relationships,” said Edmonds. Their up-front, face –to-face persona creates a trust and honesty with BTA Channel Dealers that is unique in the industry.

Family Owned and Operated

Wholesale Office Machines Co, Inc was founded in 1949 by A.W. Kartous and had been passed down the family tree ever since.

His sin-in-law Ellis Clark and brother Jim Clark took over the business from Kartous  then their son Tracy Clark and Dennie Clark helmed the heirloom. Now that their children are coming up into the company; they will be the fourth generation to shape the office world.

Wholesale Office Machines was instrumental in making Swintec into the typewriter market leader they are today. In the 80’s, during the peak of the typewriter market, they were second only to IBM.

Over the past 56 years, the company has outgrown 3 locations. Currently, Wholesale Office Machines resides in a 24,000 sq. ft. building they constructed in 1997. Their facility is strategically located within the NAFTA free zone to better serve the changing needs of their customers. Their staff is what distinguishes them in the industry, receiving awards from the BTA Channel such as .“ Most Competent Sales Staff,” in 1995 and “Manufacturer of the year,” in 1996. Now, they want to take you to the next level.

Old Fashion Charm makes for High Future Expectations

The company has experienced an average growth rate of over 30%in the past three years, due to its alignment with Korba and Copystar, Kyocera Mita Technologies.

“Wholesale Office Machines has become one of tour fastest growing distributors,” says Pete Morisco on V.P. of Copystar.

And they       are expecting future growth to be Justas extensive.

“We feel we have all the pieces in place to grow over the next 5 years,” says Tracy Clark, “We have aligned ourselves with the best manufactures and major freight line carriers to receive the maximum discount on all freight rate. That along with our 98% same –day shipping, makes Wholesale Office Machines a good option for dealers to consider in the future.

“We fell the future is bright for our company,” says President Dennie Clark, “And we’re going to continue to do business the old fashion way. Every customer is truly a member of our family.”
