Company On The Move: All Leasing Services
Buy, Sell, Consign - By Jamie Hamilton If you remember The Wholesale Group, you already know ALS. Grandfather in the industry, Mickey Stammer, started ALS about five years ago after selling The Wholesale Group. The integrity and honesty that were staples there for so many years are carried on at ALS. That’s why, when you buy, sell, or consign with them, you can expect the best treatment, machines, and information: expect to know what to expect, when the machine arrives or sells. The condition report they do on every machine tells it all. Buy from ALS- What You’ll Find TC \l1 " ALS supplies dealers with used copiers, printers, and faxes from a large inventory listed on their website (www.alscopiers.com). Contracts with leasing companies to do repossessions allow them to get in newer makes and models than are usually found at used equipment wholesalers. Dealers will find machines from brands they can trust like Toshiba, Canon, Konica, Sharp, Mita, Ricoh, Minolta, Pitney Bowes, Panasonic, Xerox, Lanier, Danka, and Savin to name a few. Search by brand, or search the entire inventory: ALS’ website is “as real time as they can get it,” and provides a condition comment on each machine if anything is wrong. You will find comments like “doesn’t have paper tray,” “paper jams” or “damaged front panel” if there are any problems with the machine. “You will see, when you visit our inventory, that each machine is given a report stating anything that may affect our clients’ decision to buy the asset,” says www.alscopiers.com. Since ALS is nationwide, not regional, dealers will find a larger selection of machines than can be found elsewhere. Their professional, courteous staff can assist dealers with purchases and selection decisions. Finding the right used machine can be tricky, especially if you are not confident in your sales rep. At ALS, they are up front about the condition of their machines, and they back up their “Satisfaction Guaranteed” policy. “What distinguishes us in the industry is being fair and honest with our customers. If it doesn’t pass copy or it has yellow covers, we tell you. It’s a trust. Once you earn their trust, you keep it by being fair,” said Brad Stammer, Mickey’s son, who has 10 years in the industry. Buying from ALS is easy, quick, and sensitive to dealers’ needs. If you need information, ALS is prompt on getting you an extensive overview of their inventory and what can ship today. Also, great package deals promise better pricing with ALS and benefit dealers with high quantity orders. Sell to ALS- Got Machines? TC \l1 " If you have machines to sell, ALS wants to know about it. “Fax us a list of all your available equipment, we want to make a bid on it, ” said Mickey Stammer. ALS will purchase all complete units and remove them for you in a timely fashion. ALS is well financed, and they are looking for ongoing relationships with dealers. Offering dealers a customized contract is just one way ALS prunes its business for the long-term. They’ve got the muscle to market worldwide and get the best price for your machines. Therefore, dealers get more. It is this kind of professionalism that keeps ALS on top in the industry. Consign with ALS- Need to Reach a Worldwide Market? TC \l1 " ALS can sell your machines worldwide. Can you? Their inventory turns over twelve times or more per year, they sell 1000 units per month, and 30 percent of their business is exported. Is this the target audience you need to get your machines in front of? If so, ALS makes consigning easy. They will provide you with accurate condition reports within 48 hours, repossession of equipment services, and guaranteed payments on the 15th and 31st. If you need your reports customized, just let ALS know. ALS will assess your machine, make a condition report within 48 hours, and send you top dollar for it. It’s that simple. Honesty- A Business Philosophy “ALS was founded on a philosophy, not a product. ‘Be fair and honest and you will have a customer forever.’ This has been our winning philosophy since day one,’ says the ALS website. And this has been passed on through the generations. From Mickey Stammer, to Kevin Ebert, to his son, Brad, from 1969 to 1999, ALS has been bred off this mantra. When asked what distinguished them in the industry, both Stammer’s said, in separate interviews, “Honesty”. A philosophy like this one is hard to come by in this industry. Maybe that’s why the family duo has lasted so long. Backbone of the Industry TC \l1 " ALS was started in Tustin, CA in 1999 by Mickey Stammer about 2 years after selling the Wholesale Group. He tried retirement but his past customers would not let him rest. Key members of the team include Kevin Ebert, President, Brad Stammer, VP of Sales, and Danny Chang, who heads the export division. M. Stammer began two companies at this time: ALS, which deals mainly with copiers, printers and faxes, and SAM (Secured Asset Management), which handles anything else the leasing companies need to reclaim. ALS repossesses the machines, creates a condition report for each machine, and then re-markets them for the leasing companies. This is how ALS gets the new model machines that U.S. dealers are looking for. Also, they purchase or consign used machines, in any quantity, from dealers or distributors. Both companies are a ONE STOP SHOP that leasing companies can go to for repossessions, asset verification, appraisals, inspection services, recovery, and the re-marketing of assets once leasing companies have been unable to collect. From his famous exporting business at the Wholesale Group, Mr. Stammer has secured a solid export customer base that he has grown since 1969. He and his son, Brad Stammer, were well known as a great source for used machines, so when they made their comeback with ALS, their old customer base was there waiting for them. “We’re back!” Their advertising read. With a special concentration in South East Asia and Latin America, where analog machines are still selling substantially, ALS has a steady flow of business based on the reputation of an honest man who knows the industry, Mickey Stammer. Expansion TC \l1 " Today the business has grown from three employees to eleven. They are no longer in Tustin in a 14,000 sq ft facility, but have moved to Irvine to a 45,000 sq ft one. Most of their one thousand sales per month are copiers. The biggest change they’ve seen in the industry is that domestic dealers are no longer looking for analog machines; they are making the digital switch. Even so, ALS has a big export market that keeps running orders at cheaper shipping costs. Worldwide sales won’t keep them from expanding their domestic endeavors, however. ALS is opening a new location in St. Charles, Missouri to service the Midwest and East Coast. The new location will be open June fifteenth and will include sales and distribution operations, functioning just like the Irvine facility. East Coast dealers will benefit from cheaper and faster shipping as well as reliable customer service and equipment. No matter what your location is, ALS is ready to service your equipment needs.
