Subject: Ricoh 1035 Print/Scan

Question:  I put a print/scan unit and also a fax option in a 1035. At first, it didn’t recognize either one. Then, after I played around with it, it recognized the fax. It still won’t recognize the print/scan, but it sees the NIC. Could it be the power board the options plug into? The copier and document server work fine.

Answer:  You should be sure that the DIMMs are installed correctly. This is the same box as the Lanier 5635. Hope this helps.

Question:  I already tried that, but at first, the NIC wasn’t seated properly. Do you have any idea why the print/scan DIMM was in slot #2 on the copier it came out of?

Answer:  Slot #2 is for the PostScript DIMM. I have no clue why it was installed incorrectly. Just remember that if you have the print/scan DIMM, then you don’t use the fax DIMM.

Subject: Canon IR 210 reset IU counter

Question:  I’m primarily a Minolta tech, but we have a customer that insists that we also service his Canon. The machine needs a new IU, and we have one on order. Does the new image unit reset the IU light or do I need a service code? If so, can someone let me know how to do that? Thanks a bunch.

Answer:  If the display reads “prep. new drum,” enter the service mode. Go to options, and I think it’s the last option, “drum disc change”; press 1 to 0, then OK.

Answer:  Once you install the drum unit, the message will go away. No resetting is needed.

Answer:  This is true, but if anybody wants to run the drum until it fails or just when the machine starts asking for it, it saves you money.

Answer:  I believe the option is “drm_msg” or something like that. Turning this off will make the message go away. This is useful if the message is on but the drum is still producing good copies. After replacing the drum, you should run a d-gama and the three gradation adjustments.

Question:  Any offers to tell me how to enter the service mode?

Answer:  Push a paper clip into the small hole inside the front cover. Then, press * twice. Hope this helps.

Subject: Sharp AL-1631 “L1”code

Question:  The scanner moves to the left very slowly. It seems to home up OK, but then the scanner moves a little to the right, stops, and we get the L1 code. I’ve cleaned and lubricated everything to do with the scanner—it was real stiff at first—but no change. The motor ohms out at 8.7ohms, but does Sharp even have that info these days? Has anybody had one like this yet? Thanks.

Answer:  Have you checked the lock for the scanner? It sounds like it may be locked. It’s underneath the front left portion of the scanner.

Response:  Yes, it’s unlocked.

Answer:  There’s a white void strip under the glass, lead side. Sometimes, if it’s dirty, the sensor won’t pick it up. Good luck.

Subject: Sharp AR-505 copies with every button

Question:  Once in awhile, my machine will start to make copies regardless of which button I push, and then it returns to normal after a little while, 20-30 minutes later. Any ideas on what might be causing this to happen?

Answer:  The most likely cause is a stuck print button. Push all the buttons on the control panel, feel and listen. You should feel the button as well as hear the click of the microswitch. It could also be that the harness is pinched against the frame (op panel).

Subject: Toshiba e-4511

Question:  The copier is showing CEBO error code. Any help is welcome. Regards.

Answer:  Sounds like it’s black dev lift clutch problems. Please refer to Toshiba Bulletin DIG-143 Rev 3. Hope this helps.

Answer:  Here’s just a little extra help: Don’t waste your time with the countermeasure kit; you’ll most likely get called back. Replace the clutch. Here’s the most current part number for it: #6LE43625000.

Response:  Thanks guys. I appreciate your help.
