FREE TECH TIPS May 2007 Subject: KM 3530 Question: The dark solids are light. I adjusted the exposures in default, but it did not help. It is not time for pm, as it has 200,000 copies and I cleaned that charge wire. If you have normal print, you cannot tell as bad. It’s just the dark solids that are very light. Thanks for the help. Answer: Clean the transfer roller using a soft dry cloth. Rub the roller with a folded portion of the cloth, but do not rub with your finger covered by cloth. Answer: Are you using generic toner? If not, you might want to empty out the developer unit and re-install a fresh toner. Answer: Sounds like generic toner or paper dust has built up in the DV unit. Good luck Answer: If all those suggestions don’t work, try this as a last ditch effort. Pull the drum unit out. On top of it, towards the rear you will find a v-pod. I know, I know. Everybody is cringing now. Turn ever so slightly counterclockwise; it doesn’t take much. This should darken the copies. Now mind you, this is not a fix, just something that might have to put it all back together every time you test it. Answer: I would lean toward the DV unit itself. I’ve had a couple go bad and give light fill in on the solids. Subject: Toshiba hard drive Question: I have a Toshiba DP 8070 with an f10 hard drive error. Two questions: Will it run without the hard drive? Where is it? Thanks. Answer: You need the drive for image storage during copying (Upper cover on the left side of the machine under the optics). Answer: Use a typical 20 gig hard drive. Just format and you are on your way. Try to reformat the old one first. Answer: Don’t forget that it is a “laptop” style hard drive (2.5) not a pc hard drive (5.25). Question: Thanks guts. Subject: Ricoh AF 650 jam problem: Question: The 3rd 1500 sheet cassette well jams at the reg roller. I have replaced the pf clutch, the one way bearing, and the OEM feed rollers. The first and sec feed just fine and I have tried vert transport. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks Answer: When you say one way bearing are you talking about the one on the vert transport? The gear on the front, under the plastic cover? What about the torque limiter? Sounds like that may be the culprit…Good luck Answer: The best thing to do is cheat the front door switches and go to output mode in five. Run the pf station and try to hold the tires in the A section. If you get any slippage that would be the clutch. I replace them as a set for each feed station. Question: The one way gear on feed unit itself. I also tried a different feed unit all together with new clutch. What is the life span of a limiter? Answer: You could have a problem with paper feed timing or buckle. What jam code was shown on the smc report [sp 7504-1, 7504-13, 7504-68]; in other words, where does it show the jam/what sensor? Answer: This job is very difficult the first time that you attempt it. If you’re a VERY experienced tech, take your time and dive in. The first time may take about two hours or so. The last one I did took me about 45 min, start to finish. Be sure to have a 12 in #2 Phillips… Answer: He’s correct; the two screws on the backside are very difficult to get to. You need at least a 12 incher to reach them. Do yourself a favor and don’t be in a hurry. You have to remove a lot of items to get to it. This includes all the boards on the rear to get to the harness. Also, you have to remove the control panel on the front in order to slide out the inner plastic cover over the laser. Subject: Mita 4090 Duplex Jams Question: I’m trying to fix a Mita 4090 that jams as the paper is going into the duplex unit. One copy will duplex just fine, but anymore than one will jam on the way into the duplex unit. The paper that jams ends up on top of the duplex unit and not in the duplex tray. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Answer: It’s been a long time but I think one of the guides in the duplex is not coming back up quick enough. It may be out of place or the solenoid is not releasing right. It’s probably the long black guide that sits to the left (if you’re not in front of machine) of the duplex feed roller. Question: I tried a whole different working duplex unit and it does the same thing. Answer: Take a look at the sensor in the reefed unit. I seem to remember a similar problem that was finally solved after replacing the paper feed sensor in the reefed section as it exits the fuser.
