BUSINESS
PROFILE: NU-DELUXE
Nu-Deluxe
celebrates its 25th anniversary this month, May 2008. During the past
three decades, owner CJ Knegten has guided his wholesale supply business
through thousands of different products. Nu-Deluxe survived the change
from wet copiers, to dry analog, to digital and color. He has seen the
remanufacturing of compatible products, OEM’s buying and selling the
branches, the
rise of printers, color and MFPs. Through all the changes, CJ Knegten
and his staff of knowledgeable supply professionals have managed to keep
on the leading edge of change, as well as retaining the knowledge and
products of the legacy equipment.
Nu-Deluxe continues to be at the forefront of providing quality copier
and printer supplies to the wholesale market.
“Our customers can call and ask about a newly released product or a ten
year old discontinued supply item. We can accommodate almost any request
for an OEM copier supply.” You can hear the smile in CJ’s voice as he
continues, “In some cases we receive calls requesting products for a
piece of equipment that never existed. With all the makes and mod els,
it is a confusing business. Our wholesale dealers often have to research
a customer’s request for the mystery machine that doesn’t really exist.
The long term professional staff at Nu-Deluxe possesses the knowledge
and confidence to determine the viability of supply requests for a
non-existence model. The knowledge of what does not exist is as
important as the ability to locate an authentic hard-to-find product.”
With all the buyouts and mergers, sometimes a manufacturer will have two
different pieces of equipment with the same number. The Nu-Deluxe staff
has the practical experience to know what questions to ask. An ounce of
prevention is often worth a pound of cure. Sending an end-user the
correct toner for a specific make and model of machine is of little
value if it is the wrong toner. The
25
years of hands-on product experience of Nu-Deluxe’s employees is
enriched by their broad range of technical information dealing with the
ever changing world of toner, developer, drums, IU kits and assemblies.
In addition to carrying a full line of OEM copier supplies, Nu-Deluxe
stocks the most popular varieties of printer supplies with an emphasis
on Hewlett Packard brand products.
CJ explains his basic business philosophy. “People, products and cash.
As an owner, I must always focus on these three areas. Working with good
and honest people is a must. This extends to employees, customers and
vendors. Our employees must have excellent customer relation skills.
They must know our products. They must be detail-oriented so each order
is accurately input and
processed.
To stay in business, we need customers who pay their bills and are loyal
to a company that consistently provides excellent products and service.
We need vendors who we can trust to provide a genuine, quality product
at fair prices, at the promised time.”
“Having the right products at the right time is essential. Our resellers
depend on us to stock the most popular genuine OEM products at a price
that makes it possible for them to make a profit. We must be able to
provide clean new packaging that will satisfy their end-user. We must be
willing to go the extra mile to locate obscure products that are
requested.”
CJ continues, “There is the need to run our business in such a way that
allows the availability of cash. No matter how great your people and
products, if there is not enough available cash to pay your overhead,
meet your payroll and pay your vendors, you will be out of business. It
is vital for our longevity to be able to manage Nu-Deluxe in such a way
that there is always cash available to buy the products that our
resellers need.” |
