COMPANY ON THE MOVE: KLE

Ronelle Ingram

Been there, invented that, improved those, manufactured these.  Tony Stramondo, President and owner of KLE, has been involved in the imaging industry for over 35 years.  An MIT and UCSD degree holder, Tony has been an integral part of designing the hardware and color laser toner most of us take for granted.

Tony Stramondo was at the forefront of designing the laser printer.  Before Hewlett Packard, before Dell, there was Tony S working with the US government, designing equipment that could provide printed documentation of the secrets that were being beamed from spy satellites.

Throughout the past 35 years, Tony Stramondo has been creating the present and improving the future of the imaging industry.  Tony helped us enjoy the luxury and economy of laser printers and rainbow hues of affordable laser color toner printing.

Tony’s working life has been obsessed with finding solutions for the needs of his customers.  Tony Stramondo has the academic training, ability to think creatively and the desire to find a different, better way to accomplish a required result.  In the beginning, Tony’s peers would tell him that his ideas were not feasible.  Eventually they learned to seek out Tony whenever the impossible needed to be accomplished.

Tony’s mind must be a whirl of high-speed ideas.  When you talk with Tony, his words are spoken at machine gun speed.  It seems as if there is so much knowledge in Tony’s brain that the ideas are fighting their way out of his vocal cords.  It is a joy to talk with someone who has original ideas and the ability to make them work for others.

Tony is a natural educator.  He openly shares his knowledge of toner chemicals and foresight into the trends of the industry.  He believes, “Toner is king of the imaging industry.  With shrinking margins in so many other areas, there are still enormous profit opportunities in the imaging market.”

Tony provides the layman’s explanation of color toner. “There are two types of pigmented-based toner: the traditional pulverized and polymerized.  There is also sublimation toner.  We sell, mix and understand all three.”

“Sublimation is a new type of toner.  It actually impregnates the surface of the material without leaving any evidence of a lip or relief.  Sublimation is the process of taking a solid to a gas and back to a solid again.  There is no intermediate liquid state. This creates a vast array of uses for sublimation toner.  It can be used to print on paper, plastic, metal, cloth, fiberglass, wood and ceramics, to name a few.  It is a very economical way to add color, images or words to a wide variety of surfaces.”
