There are a couple of minor differences also found in the frame of the fusers.  For example, a metal guide rail along the side of the cartridge extends further toward the rear to give a new position where the ground wire can be held on by a screw. The other version has that same ground wire attached by a screw to the rear frame.   (See Photo #4 for a comparison of the rear ends of the two fuser variations).  Another difference relates to the Higher Pressure found on the high speed fusers.  If you refer back to Photo #2 you can see some extra springs and the end of the heavier-duty pressure release shaft (the 165 version shows it).

There was also an improvement put into play on all fusers after the C35 version.  Ribbing has been added to the exit jam clearance baffle.  At some point it was recognized that fuser exit jams were being caused by the warping of the exit baffle.  To correct the problem, a repair kit was made which was a bunch of "snap-in" ribs for that baffle.  The newer fusers have the ribs designed right in.

Many of the other parts inside the machines are likely to be the same.  So far I have yet to see a Parts List for the newer models but peeking inside the machines themselves down at the local Staples store would lead me to believe that little has changed.  Time will tell.

One change which is certain is that the Toner Cartridges (and therefore the Developer Units as well) changed with the newest, fastest models.  The original Toner Cartridges were sold 2 in a box with a waste toner bottle under the reorder number 6R1046 .  Those fit most of the models.  They have a stated yield of 30K copies (at 5% coverage) per cartridge.  For newer faster models, the reorder number is 6R1146 which also come 2 cartridges per box with a waste bottle.  These have a stated yield of 45K copies per cartridge.  Here are the 65+ ppm models which use the newer cartridge type: CC-C165/175, CC-265/275, WC-M165/175, WC-265/275, WC-Pro165/175/265/275, WC-5665/5675/5687.  The difference is that the new 6R1146 cartridges are nearly 6 inches longer than the 6R1046 version so that it can hold about 50% more toner material.                              Photo #5: C35 CCD / Lens Assembly

Another change can be found in the Document Feed Head Assemblies which are considered to be Customer Replaceable Units (CRU).  There are 4 versions of these things.  Fortunately the tires and Retard Rolls are interchangeable throughout the 4 versions (so if you get stuck with the wrong version in hand, you can swap the important stuff over to the other feed head assembly).  You can also choose to buy the generic Document Feed Repair Kits which are universal in this style of machines (less items on the shelf is always a good thing).
