Subject: Aficio 7500 fuser question
Question: I still do not have a manual, but I have confirmed that the SC551 error is thermistor related. I made a second trip and examined the thermistors and fuser more closely. Beyond a very small amount of toner build up, both thermistors appeared to be ok. There are shallow circumference rings worn into the heat roller where they contact though.
I reset the code, and the machine ran for about 2-300 copies, possibly more, as I was examining other equipment on-site before leaving. I get the call on the way back to the shop that the error is back. I’m left assuming that one or both of the thermistors are failing intermittently. Can anybody offer any experience with this machine? Do these thermistors fail like this?? Does replacing these thermistors sound correct or should I be looking elsewhere first??? If I should be looking elsewhere, can anybody provide me with a schematic? I’d hate to order a service manual for one machine. I also noticed that for the SC541, the error message is “Thermistor Open or Thermistor error.” This seems to specifically point to the Thermistor. So Why another Thermistor error message (which is “Thermistor Error” for the SC551)? Am I to assume this means something bigger than just the Thermistor??

Answer: Replace the thermistors and make sure it has the updated thermistor brackets, and if the heat roller is scored you should replace that as well. AW10 0109 Thermistor - Inner Back 1 AW10 0108 Thermistor - Middle 1 New P/Ns - D0624196 x 2 brackets.

Question: Thank you very much. That is exactly what I was looking for, someone who works on these regularly. I was about 85% sure that was what I was looking at (well, except for the brackets). What new changes are made with the brackets? Maybe angle change to reduce pressure of Thermistors on roller?

Answer: I found this on Ricoh knowledge base, so you might want to check this out as well [Symptom] SC551 (Fusing thermistor terminal disconnect) occurs multiple times. Answer [Cause] The position of the fusing unit’s rear side plate has slipped, causing the drawer connector’s contact to be faulty. (The rear side plate is fixed by a paint locked screw, but it has slipped.) There is no improvement even when the image fusing thermistor and the harness AC main are replaced. [Resolution] Adjust the image fusing rear side plate to its normal position.

Answer: Firmware needs to be fully up to date as well apparently.

Question: Thank you again for the information. That specific error description for SC551 is greatly helpful. I’m waiting on the thermistors, brackets and heat roller to arrive. When I go back, I’ll check that out as well. How would I go about getting the firmware update? And by what method are firmware updates applied?? Thank you again guys.

Answer: They have updated the thermistors again. New part numbers are AW100108 replaced by AW100131 Thermistor: Fusing: Middle AW100109 replaced by AW100132 Thermistor: Fusing: Inner Back brackets are still the same as the first update B1404197 replaced by D0624197 Bracket: Thermistor: Middle B1404196 replaced by D0624196 Bracket: Thermistor: Inner Back.
Subject: Toshiba E-Studio 28 add toner light
Question: The toner is full, the gears are moving, and I did a developer change. The add toner light went out after developer change but is on again. Any help greatly appreciated.

Answer: It is possible to insert the toner bottle where the shutter on the bottle is not lined up right in the coupler on the hopper. A firmware update corrected the issue where the bottle didn’t home position correctly when asking for new toner. Cheat the door and see if the bottle is even turning. If it isn’t then there may be something wrong in the hopper, stripped gear or keyed shaft.

Question: I cheated the door and the cartridge is turning. I manually opened the shutter on the cartridge when I installed it just in case it was sticking. I will have to check on Monday to see if the cartridge is being stopped at the right spot to dispense the toner. I will let you know how it goes...thanks.

Answer: Remove the toner cartridge and look at the blue coupling at the rear of the cartridge cavity. You will see a horseshoe shape marker that should be at 12 o’clock position. If its not then it is out of sync.

Answer: Check the developer drive (rear side). There is a gear on the shaft and when the gear cracks, the developer unit doesn’t turn (had this problem on E-350/352).

Question: The blue horseshoe is in the 6 o’clock position. Everything else seems to be working—the toner spins, the developer unit is turning…if I do a developer change or add toner manually it will work for a few days then go into the add toner message again. So I guess I need to update the firmware. Does anyone know where to get the firmware or how to install it? We have done them for Samsung and Kyocera and NEC so we have USB flash drives and various memory cards. I suppose I could call Collins distributing, they may have it. Thanks for all your help guys.

Answer: The horseshoe needs to be at 12 o’clock—on top. If it is at 6—the bottom—it is out of sync. You need to rotate it to the top and then install toner cartridge.

Answer: The solution is simple. I’ve done it dozens of times. You need to have a hand thin enough to fit in toner shaft. Take the toner out, roll up your sleeve, reach all the way to the end of toner shaft, try to turn the gear till it clicks (sort of) and no longer turns. Insert toner properly, and you’re done. Go wash your hand and present good service call invoice to the customer.

Question: I feel stupid that it was that easy to turn the horseshoe up to the 12 o’clock position. It toned instantly and away we go... unfortunately my arm was not small enough to do this so we used a #4 wood golf club (laugh, but it worked). We did the call at noon at this law firm so everyone in the area was out to lunch and didn’t see us working on the copier with a golf club...too funny. Thanks a bunch guys for all your help.
