Subject: Offset on NP 6016 (also bold coverage)
Question: Customer called with CQ problems on an
NP-6016. Found offset of 300k on counter. I decided to
replace the fixing film assembly. Nothing changes. Found
very bold coverage. I tried another composite power
assembly, another scanning lamp, another drum unit cart,
and another transfer roller-after correct adjustment
nothing changes. I don't know what may cause the bold
coverage except primary charge roller. Thanks in advance
for fresh ideas.
Answer: Please tell me what is BOLD COVERAGE???
Answer: I think he means dark coverage, and for that I would start at the
slit glass or elsewhere in the optics. I had one that got
a ball of lint (Don't ask ME how) above the slit, and the
same thing followed.
Question: With bold coverage, I mean the bold coverage of the text
that has been copied. No background or any other dirty
optics faults; just you can read the letters on copy
touching with your fingers, like copies for the blind. On
normal machines it could happen with primary overcharge
and over toner consumption. Ordinarily you can adjust the
primary charge voltage or the high of the primary charge
corona wire, but here the NP-6016, PCR is used and the HV
circuit locates on the composite board. I started with
fuser assembly because the film has made a lot of copies
but nothing changes. This is why I ask for the
assistance. Thanks in advance
Answer: Check out your blanking and the DV blade gap. If the charge erase
is not working properly, it will cause a buildup of charge
in your drum, and this can be the result. More likely the
doc blade gap.
Answer: I would go with DR blade gap also, I used to see it on old
mono-component machines when we increased the gap for
better solids, etc. Also, maybe try changing the toner
completely, it may have bad generic or oem. Never
underestimate the power of a customer to screw you up.
Answer: If they need real dependability and quality they got the wrong
machine, they need to buy new.
Answer: However when the mag roller surface wears
off and the toner is not carried well, they all are too
old to change the DV units. I just sold a Sharp AR-M160 in
ones place.
Answer: I suggest the same or get your customer to
re-think their expectations.
Answer: We call it, “telling them how the cow eats
the cabbage”.
Subject: Sharp AR-650 Paper stops at PS roller
Question: I have an Ar-650 with finisher (fn8)
installed and it is working fine. But I went to a jamming
call and the paper stops at the PS roller. I removed the
finisher and it works fine. I replaced logic pwb, finisher
main pwb, and finisher interface pwb. I even changed out
finisher, any ideas?
Answer: Did you check your ROM version? Is it updated?
Question: ROMs are most recent. It was working fine for 55k copies
and then this.
Answer: If the paper drawers have the wrong size loaded it will cause
this to happen as well. I know it sounds stupid but I have
seen it happen.
Question: Thank you. I checked that before I went to the logic
board. I have also done a point to point check from
finisher pwb to logic pwb for opens or shorts. It is all
good. Thanks for responding.
Answer: Print out 08 setting list. Look at all jams/codes before the
problem occurred. Look for multiple codes. This will lead
you in the right direction. Good Luck!
Subject: Konica 7050
Question: Konica 7050 will not come to “ready”.
There is no heat or heater code. The fuser system checks
out fine. What is the problem with this thing?
Answer: Can you fill us in a little more? Is the machine totally dead?
Does everything appear to be warming up or never does,
more info?
Question: The copier power is on. The machine states that it is
warming up but never warms up because the fuser lamps
never turn on. The continuity through the fusing unit
appears to be good.
Answer: There is a switch in front of the fuser under a cover that the
pressure release lever actuates. The fuser will not turn
on if this switch is not being actuated.
Answer: Move the green handle that locks the fuser in place (towards
locked position). There is an interlock MS under there,
see if the lamps will light then.
Subject: Sharp SF 7900
Question: I have a Sharp SF 7900 that makes
creases on the paper after it exits the fuser unit. I
checked out the fuser and there is nothing wrong with it.
Any one ever run into this? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
Answer: Do you mean fuser rollers or fuser guide?
Answer: It should be a worn LFR or a broken UFR bushing. Is the paper
going into the fuser straight? If not could be a dirty
Transport bed belt. Good Luck
Ps, I love this machine, I wish I had sold more. Great
church machine
Answer: You said "after the fuser", does the machine have a sorter?
Also, I have seen the exit rollers (the last rollers to
touch paper as it exits the machine) bind up, lube the
bushings on each end of this exit roller shaft. Feed paper
through fuser by hand turning knob to see if it does it.
Does it do it with paper feeding both directions? As
previous post stated, it is usually the LFR and
bearings/bushings that cause creasing/wrinkling of paper
Answer: These fusers are notorious for binding. They have a "split frame"
design that sucks. I would go with Lower Roller myself,
but I don't know how you determined that the rollers
were. "O.K." sometimes you really can't see the wear and
have to assume they're bad. When was the last time they
were replaced? I've never seen the transport belts go bad
on that series machine, so I'd stay with fuser.
Answer: I like to replace the two rollers together. Like you said,
sometimes you can’t tell if upper roller is warped or off
a little. This is the type of fuser unit that after so
many copies, you will need to overhaul the unit, including
the rollers, bearings, bushings, gears and fingers and it
should be good for another 200k
copies.
Tech Tips for May 2004
Subject: Ricoh 4215 developer dumping
Question: Just changed the developer and ran
simulations 65(black developer calibration), developer
dumped all over the place. I used type 410 developer, OEM.
I would be thankful for any help.
Answer:
Check for broken gears on rear of developer unit or a bad magshell.
Have never had much problems with these units dumping
toner. They do run dusty though. Plus they are getting up
there in years.
Answer:
All I can say is to check toner hopper for proper installation.
It’s most likely a bad metering blade or mag roller.
Answer:
Have found that the cause for this is the Mylar located under the
Mag Roller assembly and tack stripped there. The problem
occurs when techs inadvertently turn the Mag Roller
backwards when PM'ing machine and developer gets
underneath the rear side of the mylar (the edge that is
inside the unit). This developer buildup causes the mylar
to be pushed up into the Mag Roller and narrowing the gap
for returning developer to get back into the unit and
dumping out the front instead. I have removed this mylar
(and the rubber strip on top of it) with seemingly no
effect on copy quality nor anything else and just leave
them off from that point on.
Answer: Did you remove the cleaning blade and vacuum the recycling
assembly? If there is any toner in the unit when you fit
new developer, it will start "dumping" developer & toner
very quickly.
Answer:
Drum ground is so important in these machines.
Subject: Canon PC-920 won't feed
Question: I have a Canon PC-920 copier that won't
feed paper from cassette. All the gear that drive the feed
roller are turning, the solenoid does release, but the
gear on the end of the paper feed roller shaft won't turn.
There is a cut out in the gear and appears that it needs
something to get it to start turning. HELP. Thanks.
Answer:
Check the feed tires. One can pop out of holder and stops the shaft
from rotating.
Answer:
I think that maybe the feed roller shaft is bowed on the
end, causing the shaft to bind. You should also check the
drive unit that turns the gear on the end of the feed
roller shaft; there are probably a couple of broken teeth.
Question:
Thanks. It was a bowed feed roll shaft.
Subject: Xerox XD-120df
Question:
This machine has a side registration problem, both thru
the Doc. Feeder and on the glass. If I move the original
over a quarter of an inch, line is gone. What code should
I use to center the scanner and can this one be done that
way? I've done a couple of Kyocera's before, but not a
Sharp or Xerox. (SAME)
Answer:
I had this problem before and it turned out to be the drum
unit.
Answer:
That would sound strange for it to be the drum, but I will
check it out. They did replace the drum with a rebuilt
unit a couple of weeks ago. Who knows? Thanks for the
Heads-Up on that.
Answer:
Here's something else you might want to check. Is the
paper positioned properly in the cassette? I've had a lot
of these "plastic" digital copiers where the paper guides
get out of whack in the drawers. I've even had to resort
to screwing them in position on some machines. Just an
idea.
Subject: Sharp SD-3062...
Question: Customer says machine has "no power".
Yes, we checked with them to see if it is plugged in....
I've read in the tips section that the main power switches
can be flaky. Can they also completely go bad, or is this
more like a power supply problem? Thanks in advance.
Answer:
In a no power situation, first thing to do is check the
power fuse at the AC P/S!
Answer:
On/Off switch is a high mortality part.
Answer:
Check the ac pwb. They can go out and come back on until
they just stay off.
Answer:
I have seen this also. Be sure to check solder on back of
AC supply, I also had an idea that the SD-3062 would make
an ideal anchor for a large boat! Also I've seen a lot of
unusual problems caused by arcing coronas and associated
hv connections, cables and supply's. Good luck!
Question:
Thanks for all the help guys.... It was the 20 Amp Fuse on
the A/C power supply. Replaced it today and machine fired
right up!
Subject: Sharp sf 2035
Question: It's getting blurred copies and
reducing. Also jamming in exit from cassettes but bypass
will feed fine. I have changed main logic board and main
drive motor. We have a parts machine that we replaced each
of the main components with. If anybody could help us with
this problem we gladly appreciate it. We have also
replaced the 2nd mirror/expo lamp unit.
Answer:
Check that cassette front-rear reg is the same as the
bypass and that the cassettes are set to the correct paper
size (bypass auto senses). Can’t imagine that main pwb
would cure blurring. Also, scanner/lens simms may need
resetting (use the book). Does the blurring alter if you
reduce/enlarge the image? That will point you to drum or
optics. I think you need a bit more investigation yet.
Post again with your findings. Good luck.
Answer:
Does it sound like the motor is slowing down? If so, clean
ALL of the drives. Also clean the lens rail and scanner
rails. I have seen the bushings on the shaft that is
driven by the scanner motor get dirty which can cause a
blurring image.
Tech Tips for April 2004
Subject: Savin 9013, E-55 code
Question: Intravia says this is a thermistor code.
Tested fuser lamp, thermal fuse and thermistor.
It showed something like 250k ohms and changed with some
heat applied. Don't see many Savins or Ricohs, but there
is what appears to be a triac on the PCB that the fuser
cables go to. Looks a lot like what I've seen on some
Minoltas, and are known for fuser codes. Am I close? If
so, anybody got a part number? Otherwise, HELP! Thanks.
Answer:
All fuser codes on the Ricoh's must be reset from service mode.
Did you reset?
Intravia will show you how E55 is usually thermistor. If
it is not the lamp or thermo fuse then thermistor. Get a
visual on the lamp. Does it come on? It’s the board most
probably. ios ok. Regards.
Question:
I did a reset by turning dipswitch 101-2 on and off, then
turned machine off and on. Still came up the same. Did I
do right?
Answer:
Try sp 97.
Answer: I think its 101 - 1. Flicking the switch back and forth
usually cures the problem. Good luck
Answer:
IT'DPS 101-1 ON AND OFF.
Question:
Thanks for the replies guys. I’ll go back and try this out
tomorrow.
Subject: Lanier 5020mfd/Aficio200
Question:
Copies faded and light shaded bands appear about an inch
apart every time. I replaced the drum and the d/t unit, I
have the exact same copies. I have also checked the laser.
Answer:
Check your drum ground. It may need to be cleaned and repacked with
conductive grease. The development clutch is also a
possibility. Good luck.
Question:
I have cleaned the drum shafts and put conductive grease on
them. Where is the drum ground exactly and how do you
re-pack it? That sounds like a wheel bearing. I will
check the DV clutch. I am relatively new on these units,
so bear with me. Thank you.
Answer:
I've emailed you a bulletin (TSB #022) on the problem you are
describing. There is ALOT of good info in there (Including
drum ground). You really want to put the grease only
where the bearing is. "Repack" is probably not the right
word since they don't really pack it to begin with. Just
make sure it's clean before greasing. In regards to the
laser unit, I would give it another once over, and make
sure all of the glass and mirrors are clean, including the
polygon.
Answer:
You might also look at the cooling fan for the laser unit. It is
located towards the rear of the laser unit, left side.
Also check to see if the polygon motor is turning freely.
If not, unclip the assembly and clean and lube shaft with
oil.
Subject: Toshiba eStudio 25s
Question:
There is a c26 on a Toshiba estudio 25s. What does this
mean?
Answer:
Straight from manual. Exposure lamp disconnected or peak detection
failure. Haven't had this problem on this MC so don't
want to mislead you. Try checking condition of white
strip at lead edge of glass. Be sure it's in good
condition and glass and optics are clean.
Answer:
It will do this if you switch on when the glass is out of the m/c
so clean the white strip as Chi said.
Question:
The optics are perfectly clean, even the white strip.
Unfortunately, this did not work. Would it be possible to
raise the exposure lamp voltage? Would it help? If so,
how would this be done?
Answer:
Check 4-amp fuse on power supply.
Subject: Aficio 551 - White line
Question: I am having a problem with 551
print/copy. On test it puts white line 10 cm from top, 2mm
thick from left to right - just like something stay on
shield glass. Not visible on text/lines, slightly visible
on black solids, but it is nightmare on gray areas. All PM
are new. Beside of that, copy is perfect. Any ideas?
Answer:
Check underneath the scale plate and make sure that there is no
paper dust under it. Paper dust can cause light streaks.
Question:
Thanks Richard, but it has that white line when used as a
printer also. I think that we can exclude the scanner
from the problem
Answer:
Inspect the developer upper seal, it can roll back under the cover
and cause a dip in the brush.
Subject: Sharp 2022 duplex problem
Question: Last week I added an RADF and Duplexer to
a customer’s machine. They called me yesterday stating
that when trying to run duplex, it will do only 1 page and
then stop. She has to then open and close the duplex tray,
and the copier will spit out the page that is in the
duplexer. Anyone seen this problem? I called Hytec. They
said they have heard of that problem but no one has ever
called them back to let them know what the fix is. I’m
going out there on Monday with a new main PWB with ROM
version 6.07. I think it is the latest version. Any help
would be appreciated. TIA
Answer:
Check that you didn't disturb the switch on the underneath of the
ADU. I had some funny readings off that before. Good Luck
Answer:
Hey Dan, I am not quite sure and I will check my book, when you add
a duplexer you have to add it and let it know, just like
if you were to add a ADF or sorter. Did you do these
things? If yes then I will check out my book to see if it
says anything.
Answer:
By the paper feed roller are some tension springs. Try taking some
tension off so they don't hold the paper from feeding.
Answer:
The paper is not registering at the sensor in the base of
the duplex. Could be stuck down, broken or dislodged. In
extreme cases, I

[8] Simulation and diagnostics
1. Simulation
(1) Introduction
Simulation is used to do the following:
• To operate any functional block independently to check
its function.
• To adjust the machine.
• To cancel troubles.
• To set up functions.
(2) Purpose …Simulation is used to help repair and adjust
the machine. When the PAUSE key is pressed in the course
of a simulation being executed, the simulation is
interrupted with the copy number window turned off and the
copier becomes ready to accept entry of a simulation
number.
*1: If the key was pressed for more than five seconds, it
may not go into the simulation mode.
*2: Further operation may be needed depending on the kind
of simulation.
*3: One of the next methods is required to cancel the
simulation as it varies according to the simulation. The
machine then starts from the state immediately after power
on.
— Other than simulation 7
The simulation is canceled when the CLEAR ALL key is
pressed.
— Simulation 7
One of the following operation cancels the simulation
execution.
1. Power switch off.
2. Press the CLEAR ® PAUSE ® 0 ® PAUSE ® CLEAR ALL keys.
— Simulation 14 …The simulation 14 is used to clear the
memory contents (H2, H3, H4) that have been stored. After
the simulation 14 has been executed, the diagnostic is
automatically terminated.
— Special keys
CLEAR ALL key: Simulation mode ® normal mode.
PAUSE key: Execution of simulation is interrupted.
CLEAR key: Clears the copy number window.
— The diagnostic is automatically terminated after the
door switch operation "ON ® OFF ® ON", except "H" and "U2"
code.

Subject: Toshiba 5560 RADF
Question: I have a Toshiba 5560 ADF that I have
done just about everything to that one could possibly do
to it, and still have problems. When you feed through the
ADF, it will work without jamming, however, when the paper
comes out of the exit of the ADF, it spits it out about
3/4" out of the exit and then shoots it across the bed of
the ADF and mixes up the originals which is frustrating to
both me and my customer (It went from doing it
intermittently to now doing it constantly …after replacing
brake and clutch). I have replaced the brake and clutch in
the turnaround section and have a fairly new belt and feed
tires. The one ways have been cleaned as well. Am I
missing a code somewhere? All of the alignment codes are
at default. Thanks in advance.
Answer:
We refurbish these machines all the time and have found
many problems with the ADF. Replacing the main board in
the ADF has solved all issues. Hytec probably has the
board repaired or can repair it. Hope this helps.
Answer:
Try waxing the glass. I know it sounds dumb but I have
seen ADF do weird things when the glass is a little tacky.
Answer:
One test you can try is running duplex 2-2 say loading ten
originals. During the operation the exit should fully
shoot out the original. If it does not exit completely,
your sensors are probably out of adjustment. With the
copier off, remove the top back ADF cover to access the
ADF logic board. Flip dip switch "4" to the "ON" position.
Turn on the copier and the L.E.D.s will flash. When the
L.E.D.s go off the sensor, adjustment is complete. Turn
off the copier and flip dip switch back off, turn on
copier. This has fixed a lot of strange problems for me.
Let us know what you find. Good luck buddy.
Answer:
Allow me to elaborate on what our experiences have been on
this problem. We replaced EVERY part in these ADF's,
including the main board and still had that same problem.
We spent a HELL of a lot of money on the parts too. That
brake clutch thing was like $100, or more. What we
eventually found was that one of my techs had replaced the
SEP belts but had ALSO adjusted the nip (gap) between the
SEP belts and the feed rollers. This adjustment (with the
Allen screws on the top of the bracket) should NEVER be
adjusted. Making this adjustment, along with replacing the
rubber, made the drag on the incoming originals TOO HIGH
and caused the originals to be out of sync. This caused
the exiting originals to shoot out way too fast, and of
course, mis-order them in the exit area. See if you can
find the specs on setting that SEP bracket back and see if
that makes a difference. If it's been adjusted (and you
can tell by seeing if the locktite has been broken),
you've got nothing to lose. Move it around and see if it
stops your problem.
Subject: Panasonic DP150
Question:
If anyone out there knows the part number for a bypass
tray (the one that customers break off), I would greatly
appreciate it. Also, is there a way to reset the drum
light?
Answer:
To reset the drum count enter service mode. <counters> and
change counter 2 to a 0.
Answer:
ffpuq90s00 is bypass assembly. It’s cheap.
Subject: Copystar 2130 streaks
Question:
Hi, just working on a Royal Copystar 2130 that is putting
black streaks parallel to paper path not always in the
same place but do mostly in one or two strong bands also
some background. Does not seem to be a cleaning problem,
since the cleaning blade is doing its job but the streaks
are starting at the drum. I have cleaned all coronas and
contacts and tried a different corona assy. and dev/drum
unit. Seems to be a possible voltage or bias problem but I
am not finding the problem. Any help would be much
appreciated. Thanks
Answer:
You have lost drum ground. Take a rag and shove it in the
drum drive shaft hole in the rear of the machine. Clean it
out and re-lube with conductive grease.
Answer:
Make sure you
are getting power to the cleaning and blank lamps. It is
also easy to plug in the cleaning lamp connector
incorrectly. Visually check the connection.
Tech Tips for February 2004
Subject: Toshiba 5560 RADF
Question:
I am having a problem with a Toshiba 5560 RADF that is
driving me insane. When you run a stack of originals through
it, sometimes it will run flawlessly, and sometimes it will
spit out a page and about half an inch of the next page in
the sequence. It hardly ever causes a real jamming problem,
but the crazy thing will shoot out that next page past the
stopper wires on the RADF feed tray....very annoying. Could
it be the brake assembly on the turn-around section or am I
barking up the wrong tree? I know this much for sure, if
the tires are crappy, you will get weird jamming all over
the place. I have just changed tires on this unit less than
20K ago. All help and advice greatly appreciated.
Answer:
I have a few of these machines out with a similar problem ,
bi-monthly I have to clean every feed and exit wheel and it
will run great for about 2 months and it starts all over
again. I find the wheels just get all crapped up with paper
dust and toner/ink. I have yet to find a permanent fix for
that feeder or any other. some are better than others I
guess.
Answer:
You hit it right on the money. Change the brake and also
the clutch in the exit section. There are also one-ways you
need to clean. Try cleaning the one-ways first, but I have
had this problem before and it was the brake and clutch.
Good luck.
Subject: Ricoh 1035
Question:
I’ve been experiencing light, spotted background on several
of these machines. Seems like sometimes the drum clears it
up, sometimes it’s the charge roller or the charge roller
cleaning roller. Also the waste toner is getting full really
fast. Any ideas would be helpful.
Answer:
Pretty common for these. The developer is rated 300-360k.
I've been finding some accounts go 80-100k. The dev gets the
dust and paper dust in it and spits it out on the paper. The
other problem might be that the toner return area was not
covered during developer initialization. Another thing might
be that the paper dust filtering screen in the developer
assembly opening is plugged and needs to get cleaned
Answer:
Check the mag roller real good. These machines seem to
develop a film on the roller and do not hold the developer
well. You may even have to use a Scotchbrite pad to remove
the film.
Answer:
The devo doctor gap was changed on these in the later
production to combat this problem. Also, we set ours at
.037.
Subject: Mita DC 2355
Question:
Does anybody have a service manual x DC 2355? I need
information about error code C31 - Mita DC- 2355. When the
copier is turned on, in several times the copier gave me c31
code. Thank you.
Answer:
Scanner problem.
Answer:
Clean and lube scanner rails, Remove and clean home position
sensor. Check to see that piece that actuates home position
sensor is placed properly. Check scanner motor.
Subject: Toshiba 2550 – Lanier 6725
Question:
Have one where the copies are slightly out of focus and
exposure is dark (no back grounding), But any thin lines or
very fine print won't show up. I have tried new drum, dev
and coronas. The customer says that it makes a noise but it
won't do it when I'm there. The copy quality seems to be
getting worse
Answer:
I am assuming you have done this, but you did pull off the
black optics cover right? There should be some black plastic
light shields attached to the lens housing. I've had these
come off and makes for some weird imaging. By what you have
said, I would guess it's something in the optics. Have you
removed the 5/6 mirrors and cleaned the slit glass?
Answer:
check lens and mirror positions. Make sure they match
numbers inside of the front door. adj are 08or05 50 51 52
Answer:
I've had a number of "B" Box Toshibas do this to me. The
lens was slightly out of focus. I also had one that had a
slipping belt on the scanner. That made a wonderful noise.
Check on that too.
Subject: Panasonic DP-2500
Question:
I have a code e04-01. I think it is a low fuser temp code
but not sure. can someone give me the service code procedure
and if possible how to reset the code or if there something
in the fuser that needs to be replaced, can you let me know?
any help would be great.
Answer:
Go to F9 Scroll to LBP fuser reset. Be careful to make sure
no paper is caught on hot roller shielding thermistor.
Answer:
Press Function / original size ledger/ no. 3 with power on,
this gives F1, press 9. Function / cancel to clear F codes.
Answer:
If the counter copier is over 120k than check the rear
bearing of the heat roller!!! hope the f9 progress did help
you!
Question:
all your responses helped. I have a warped fuser from
overheating. Thanks again.

Subject: Canon 2120
Question: I have been working on a canon 2120. It is dark on top of
page and light on bottom. I have tried new drum, developer,
corona assy, high voltage, adj to exposure, replace lamp,
adj shutters. Only thing I have left is the dc controller.
Am I missing something? Generally I have no trouble with
these machines but this one is whipping me. Any help would
be appreciated. Thanks. Todd.
Answer:
Todd, the bottom mirror has a
slit glass that pulls out. The mirror right above it is hard
to clean, if you did not use a probe of some type to push
the cleaning cloth up to the ends of the mirror, it could be
that easy, or that hard, depending.
Question: I pulled the assembly out so I could clean that mirror and
it still did not help. Is there anything else that I missed?
Thanks.
Answer:
Did you try the transfer corona assy? The whole corona?
That’s what it sounds like to me. Good luck.
Answer:
Shut off the machine when the copy
is 1/3 of the way under the drum. Remove the drum and look
at the image on the drum. Is light/dark problem present on
the image on the drum? If the image on the drum is good,
it's transfer, if it's not, then your problem is before
transfer. Some suggestions; drum, primary, developer, lens
light curtain. Did you vacuum out the developer and add
fresh toner? The toner gets damp in low volume machines and
causes light copies and light streaks.
Answer:
Have you looked at the springs
under the paper transfer assembly? I had a customer who had
a jam and released the corona from the drum contact and it
never worked right. Then it was the fact that one of the
springs had fallen off its white support arm and the corona
was not even distance from the drum.
Answer:
Sometimes the tension springs that hold the developer to the
drum get weak. You can check this by holding pressure to
the drum on the front of the developer unit. Good luck.
Subject: Mita 1856/2355
Question: I am getting blank copies. I have installed new Katun
Toner and Developer, new toner motor, new auger spring, new
sensor, and platinum charge wire. If we advance the DV unit,
we get a faint image for a few copies and then blanks. We
have 4 machines doing the same thing. We believe in the KISS
approach, but this has us scratching our heads. We even had
HYTECH check out all the charge boards. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks! Dennis at SOS.
Answer:
Is the developer unit turning?
I'm not sure what you are saying. Where are you losing the
image? Is it on the drum?
Question: Thanks for the reply. There is no image on the drum.
Machines come up to ready, all gears seem to be turning,
initial problem leading up to this, "add toner" prompt,
motor never shut off and auger spring bent like a pretzel!
Completely rebuilt a DV unit with new supplies and still no
change. Is there a Mita magic word? Please let us know!
Lamps, scanner all seem to be doing their thing. Thank you
again! Dennis at SOS.
Answer:
To test the toner-add: Run “toner
add” simulation... U61 I think. Number should be around 220
or so. If it is higher then it is under toned. Keep
running and the number should lower if the toner add is
working properly. It sounds like the mag-roll or the drum
isn't turning. Regards...Venom
Answer:
I agree with venom, the DV or the
drum is not turning.
Subject: Canon GP 200 Help Please!!!
Question: The doc feeder works fine when copying but when they use
the fax feature it jams at the belt section. I have cleaned
all rollers and belts but no help. Thanks in advance...Geo
Answer:
Is the developer unit turning?
I'm not sure what you are saying. Where are you losing the
image? Is it on the drum?
Answer:
This sounds like a pickup problem.
Pickup for faxing and copying are different on that feeder.
Faxing should use the lower two pickup tires and feed from
the bottom of the stack. Try putting pressure on the stack
by pushing lightly down into the tires to check.
Answer:
Copies are bottom fed, faxes are top fed. A couple of
things you should check. Just to the left of the feed belts
is a white plastic arm. You can try adjusting the sep.
pressure by raising or lowering the screw and lock nut on
that arm. In the left rear of the machine near the hinge
there is a metal arm on that same shaft that sometimes comes
loose. If all else fails, you can set the copier to use
bottom feed for faxes. Set Options/Fax_Doc_Feed to 1.
Question: Thank you so much but as I stated, I’m not
all that familiar with this copier. How do I go about
changing the settings? Is it like the sharp copiers where
you need to go into a service mode? Thanks again for the
help...Geo
Answer:
Press service switch through small hole in inner front
cover (upper left) with a paper clip. “$” will be displayed
in upper left of the LCD panel. Press * twice (KEYPAD *,
not additional functions). Choose 5 - options. Scroll to
second page. Highlight FAX_DOC_FEED, enter 1 press OK. Press
reset twice to exit. Good luck.
Question: Joe, everything worked great. Thank you so much for the
help...Very, Very much appreciated...Geo
Answer:
You're welcome, Sir. Have a great one.

Subject: Canon PC1
Question: This unit was given to us by a customer who said that it just
stopped making copies. She apparently replaced the cartridge
herself and found that it had n fect. So she gave it to
us with the new cartridge, "for parts". I wasn't going to
bother with it but I have a good friend in need of a machine
to make occasional copies and thought this would be perfect
for him. So I decided to put it on the bench and check it
out. It seems that after a 1 minute warm-up you need to run
between 20 and 25 pages through it before copies begin
coming out. After these initial pages run through, the first
ïègB copy will start out as a partial page and after about two or
three more, a full page will appear. After this period, the
thing seems to make consistently good copies. I have
experimented with leaving the machine on for a few hours and
have found that when I do this I can cut this initial run
through down to 5 or 6 pages before copies appear. I have
yanked power on the machine midway through a copy and found
no toner on the drum. Initially I suspected a flaky clutch
might be the problem, but this warm-up thing doesn’t seem to
suggest that. Does anyone have any experience with these who
might be able to shed further light on this? Thanks, Lenny.
Answer: I would suspect the transfer corona shorting out. The charge
corona is affected by transfer unit shorting. I would
replace the transfer corona unit. It is common on Canon pc's
for these to fail. Frank.
Answer:
The answer you got about the Xfer corona is valid, however, I
think the part is discontinued. If you can't find another,
clean it up & dope it up. It may work. The Early PC units
also have a lot of contact problems. Remove the Xfer and
clean all the contacts with a pencil eraser and also stretch
the springs. Finally the power supply also can have a bad
ground, so tighten all the star washers. If these fixes
don't work, trash it. You can replace it for $100 with a
rebuilt. Remember your time is valuable. Bob
Subject: Ricoh Aficio 550 Total Counter Reset
Question: Is it possible to reset the electrical
total counter back to zero? I tried code 7-808 and 7-825 but
no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Brian.
Answer: The only way to reset the total electrical counter is to replace
the nvram. Normy.
Answer: I have set the electrical counter back to zero by removing the
V-ram chip and installing it back into the socket but moving
the chip over by 1 pin to the right. Turn machine on and
then do a memory clear. Put the chip in the right way and
then reprogram LCD screen adjustment. This will set counter
to 0. I found this method by mistake when we installed ram
chip in wrong. Jeff
Answer: Jeff great tip, thanks. Normy.

Question: I set up this new machine, filled w/DV and
inserted the toner cartridge then tried to enter the SIM
25-2. I went by the service manual code for Sim 25 -2 but it
would not accept it. I can make copies and they look good,
however, I still need to run this Sim. What am I doing wrong
in entering this code? Will it run about 3 min like the
older ones? Rich
Answer: Machines do not require calibrations with code. Pour and play
like someone here said...I like that call
Pour in DV, turn on machine and bam, it is ready. Yak
Answer: This machine does require 25-02 to be run. You have to press
‘OK’, NOT ‘Start’ to begin process. Have fun. Dave

Toshiba E-STUDIO16
Question:
Does anyone know
of any issues with this photocopier/printer with Windows98?
I can't get it to print. All the drivers are up to date and
it is running from Windows 98 desktop to copier via a
parallel port, and GDI driver as required. When printing
the document sits in queue, with the error message
"initializing". I tried the same cable, same desktop but
with a Lexmark printer and I was able to print, which rules
out the controller board since the second printer worked. I
called Toshiba for help and they recommended cleaning out
every reference in the registry and re-installing. I did
this and still have the same problem, does anyone have any
suggestions?
Answer:
Sounds similar to
a problem I had this week installing a DP80F as a printer.
In the end what I did was remove the drivers from the
computer, switch off the DP80 and do an install of the
program only without the computer seeing the printer. I
then switched off the computer, switched on the printer,
then booted the computer, and they recognized each other and
now talk and print.
Answer:
I'm not sure, but
if you've got the Print Controller loaded in the machine,
this would take precedence over the parallel cable's own
print capabilities. You are able to print to these machines
right out of the box without installing the controller. Try
removing the print controller and see what happens, you may
have a bad one.

Minolta EP 2152
Question:
I am looking for parts/service manual for this copier and/or the
part number and a supply source for the plastic gear cover
for the toner supply. The plastic pin is broken which holds
the small gear that drives the solenoid controlled
mechanism. The Solenoid controlled mechanism rotates the
toner cartridge to supply toner to the developing unit.
Thank-you in advance for your help!
Answer:
That part is not
available. It is part of the image unit and is only
available as part of IU. Find and old IU and use it’s
parts.
Answer:
Get creative,
drill a hole at the place where the plastic pin was and
insert a small pin (local hardware) and put a c clip at end
if you need too. I have done it and one thing for sure it
will never break again.

Riso Tr1510
Question:
I have a Riso
that keeps calling for ink and the ink cartridge is full. I
have also tried replacing the ink cartridge. It looked like
the screen on the elbow connector was getting clogged up and
I cleaned it. The machine ran fine for a few days then had
the same problem.
Answer:
Is the ink OEM?
It could be bad batch!
Answer:
When it calls for
ink is there ink, on the drum screen? If not, check the one
way gear on the squeegee roller in the drum body. I have
had them go bad and not spin the squeegee roller.
If the drum looks inked up, you may have a bad drum PCB
board (it is in the drum and has 2 antennas). It could also
be the ink pump is either failing or has an air bubble in
the ink tube line. Also, check the sensor that the ink pack
sits on; I have seen the sensor get bent, so when the ink
pack is in the actuator it is not passing through the
sensor. Just some ideas for you to check. Good Luck,
Vinnie

Toshiba 1710
Question:
I am having a
problem with registration; the copier works okay when making
single copies, but when making multiple copies the machine
offsets 1/3 to 1/2 of a page. Sometimes it will make three
or four copies correctly before it starts offsetting.
Answer:
I
would remove the registration clutch and clean it and the
registration roller. If that doesn’t work you might have to
replace the clutch. Hope this helps, Tommy.

This
is a classic problem with this machine and try changing the
rego clutches

Minolta 1031
Question:
This machine
is giving me white streaks. I cleaned the main transfer and
the corona, but I am still having the same problem. Any
ideas?
Answer:
Did you check
the Developer housing? The metering blade gets junk
underneath it and won't allow developer to adhere to the
roll at that point. Pains in the ‘keester’ but a lot of
Minolta’s do this.
Answer:
Try checking
the mylar that covers the mag roller. I had some that had a
pin prick hole in them and that let the developer come
through just enough to cause a white streak.

Toshiba 2060, 2860 Lanier 7320, 7328
Question:
The document
feed will be feeding fine and then make an awful noise and
jam. Any input would help?
Answer:
Check if ADF
belt (wide white one) needs to be replaced. Also the glass
may need lubricant. If not, remove feeding section of ADF.
Check for staples, paper and wear of gear teeth. Be sure
rollers turn smoothly. Inspect feed rollers and sep pad. I
had one do something similar and the only thing I found was
a staple that fell out when I was working on it. Whether it
was meshed in gear or feed section drive wasn't butted and
locked down with screws, I don't know. After I reassembled
the machine, I had no more problems and it’s going on three
months on mc doing 15K/mo.
Answer:
Try checking
the roller with the gear attached to it on the belt (lower
left). The shaft sometimes breaks free from the roller.
Answer:
I've heard
that noise and it is usually from the pickup roller pressure
pad (the one on the upper frame, above the pickup roller).
It will stay in the down position while the machine tries to
feed and holds back the paper. Usually, just taking apart
and cleaning the clutch that lifts/lowers the pad fixes it
for me. Pain to get to though... Good luck Tim.

Question:
White banding
on Katun test chart(rear side of chart) from operator side
to non-operator side 3/4 down page from lead edge, on front
side of Katun test chart in same area, 8 and 6pt lettering
has areas deleted on it. I have tried drum, developer,
coronas, exposure adjustments, optics, when you go to a
darker setting the white banded area fills in with a dark
banded area, deleted areas in letters fill in, any help

Answer:
At the front of the machine just behind
the cleaning unit there is a little motor with a belt on it,
change the motor as it wears out and shorts causing your
problem.

Sharp 2120 drum sensitivity reset
Q:
Hi all, I think it’s crop 24-7 but don’t remember if
that’s it or not. I will be doing a full pm on one
Thursday and need to get info ASAP, I know the 42-1 and
20-01 and 25-2 but can’t remember the drum. Thanks in
advance
A: I'm pretty sure there is no drum
reset on the 2120. Just do the 25-02, 20-01 and 42-01.
A:
It
is code 24, sub-code 7 and the machine uses drum voltage
correction to maintain copy quality.
Ricoh FT-5053
Q. I have a machine that gets an E-5 code about once
a month. I clear the code and it seems to work fine, but
then about a month or so later it pops up again. I don't
think ambient air temp is the problem since it's been in the
mid 80s here for the last month. Plus, I had this machine in
the shop over the winter and I fired it up several times
when the temperature in my shop was about 60 and it warmed
up fine every time. What should I do?
A: E-5 isn't just fuser related; it
also refers to the paper trays & duplex unit (on a
5535). You need to view the service code history in SP7 -
402 & scroll through with the + / - keys. When you have
the actual code i.e.: 542, 505, etc you will have more
ideas. If your customer clears a fuser jam and fails to
reset the fuser unit on the first attempt. It’s game over
until you get there to reset the code. You might want to
inquire about jamming problems.
Q. I should have also mentioned that
the code that is recurring is E-548, which I believe means
the fuser is not warmed up.
A. I have always replaced both
thermistors when I get fuser codes and this usually fixes
the problem. Sometimes it can be noise on ac line too.
Toshiba DP 6570- Toner Dump
Q: This copier is making very dirty copies, including
black line stripes from right to left and they are not from
the fuser. Also, there is a lot of toner dump from 2
developer rollers. I vacuumed DV unit and this did not help
and l tried a DV unit from good working machine but new DV
unit was getting bad as old one. I tried new toner sensor,
recalibrated DV unit and adjusted exposure light and cleaned
the optics. Since I changed all values from 05-200 to 05-212
it started making good copies. NO. New m/c value 201 110
from 128; 203 65 from 104; 205-0 65 from 104
205-1 65 form 104; 205-2 65 from 104; 207 65 from 104; 216
70 from 133; 210-0 65 from 93; 210-1 65 from 93; 210-2 65
from 93; 212 65 from 93. Are those values okay for the
machine long term? I'm not a specialist on Toshiba products.
A. Are you sure the correct toner was installed?
Q. Yes, I installed the OEM toner.
A: Try checking the transfer belt
cleaner assembly. Also, how many copies ago did you complete
the last maintenance, and did you replace the transfer belt
and cleaner blade?
A. Sounds like your transfer belt
needs to be changed.
Xerox-5018
Q. I have a machine with no power. I
have checked the voltage at main switch and also at the ac
driver board and they are both okay. Where is the low
voltage power supply locate? I think it might be the problem
as there are no voltages present at main board. Any other
possible solutions?
A: The low voltage power supply is under the transfer
corotron. You must take out the complete fuser assembly and
then the corotron transfer and a plate under this, one
screw. You can buy the part at The Partsdrop. They sell a
complete line of Xerox parts.
A: I agree the low voltage power
supply is bad. However, the advice that you can remove it by
taking out the fuser will make for a very long day. The LVPS
board will not clear the register rolls. The transpor |
